Aims
The ICT department seeks to enable students to use ICT effectively to communicate their ideas and to present their work, as well as collect and handle data and use ICT to control events. In order to achieve this students are given opportunities to learn skills in a variety of software applications and acquire transferable skills and ICT capability.

Each unit of work at Key Stage 3 will include the use of a number of software packages. Throughout the units students will be expected to plan, draft, create, refine, test and evaluate their work with reference to the audience and purpose.
At Key Stage 4 students are offered the opportunity to extend their studies in ICT, or to study business.
Qualifications
Edexcel GCSE Applied Business (Double Award)
An interesting and demanding course that offers the opportunity to study aspects of business in real contexts. Students study 4 units including
· Investigating Business – the aims, objectives, activities, ownership, structure, functional areas, stakeholders of business and ethical issues affecting business
· Financial Records – Financial documents, payment methods, costs and revenues, profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, ratio analysis
· Investigating, people business & change – an investigation into customer service, application process, training, consumer laws, competition, working arrangements, current economic conditions and government management of the economy
· Financial Planning & Forecasting – cash-flow forecasting & statements, budgets, break-even, sources of finance
The course involves visits to 4 businesses and is assessed through a combination of controlled assessment and examinations.
Edexcel GCSE Applied Business (Single Award)
An interesting and demanding course that offers the opportunity to study aspects of business in real contexts. Students study 2 units including

AQA GCSE Business & Communication Systems
This course offers students an opportunity to further their ICT skills and study the impact of ICT on business organisations.
Topics covered include
· ICT Systems & Administration – Business environment, Business administration, Workplace organisation , Health & Safety, ICT Data systems, Security of data
· Human Resources – recruitment & selection of staff, training, rewarding staff, rights & responsibilities
· Communication – importance, benefits, methods, LAN & WAN networks, internet & ecommerce
· Using ICT in Business – creating business documents, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, presentation, web authoring
· Investigating ICT in Business – preparation, research and presentation of the use of ICT in a particular business.
The course involves a visit to 1 business and is assessed through a combination of controlled assessment, practical and written examinations.
Edexcel GCSE ICT
An exciting new course for 2010, this involves the students extending their ICT capability and skills in ICT.
Topics covered include
Living in a Digital World – investigation into the developing range of personal digital devices and their impact on the way organisations work and society; how digital devices connect and communicate, operating safely online, online goods and services, online communities, social, ethical and legal issues related to ICT
Using Digital Tools – research and information gathering using databases, online sources and primary sources, modelling using spreadsheets, digital publishing, evaluating and working effectively and safely
The course is assessed through a combination of a written and practical controlled assessment and a written examination.
