Explosive scarecrow is too much for Joe!

Greyhound given medication to help him cope  traumatised dog is too frightened to go on walks due to “thunderous” bird-scaring explosions. Retired greyhound Joe is taking expensive calming medication after his owner, Angela Patmore, became concerned. Miss Patmore, of Edmund Green, Gosfield said she and other dog walkers were fed up with the explosives, which scare the dogs when they are walking near fields.

Farmers use the legal devices, which are small explosions of compressed air, to protect crops. Miss Patmore said: the bird scarers are now so thunderous my dog is having treatment and will not get out of the car, even children are scared. “I rang the council and they said there is nothing they can do. It sounds like a bombs going off”

Farmers should use and abide by the NFU code of Practice regarding use of bird scarers, which gives guide-lines to farmers about their use.
