Boris the buzzard shot in the wing
A RARE buzzard is recovering after being found with a hole in its wing. The bird of prey – named Boris by the rescuers – is thought to have been shot with an airgun. Boris was discovered by a farmer at Wethersfield and is now being cared for by the Wild lives sanctuary in Thorrington.
Centre owner Rosie catford said: “Fortunately, the pellet missed the bone in his wing or it could have been a different matter”. Boris is now feeding well and the staff has been building up his strength. Buzzards are protected species and have a wing span from up to five feet.
The farmer who found Boris said” It had got itself into a stump in a hedge, but when I got hold of it, I grabbed its legs first and it got hold of my fingers with its talons. We put it in a rucksack and it wouldn’t let go.”
Andy Robbins of the RSPCA said “If someone did shoot Boris they face up to six months in jail and a £5,000 fine if caught.”
