Welcome to Alec Hunter Humanities College
Year 10 Additional Science Exam Monday 21st May
A warm up exam session will be running at 8:00 am for students to attend before their morning exam. Breakfast rolls and drinks will be supplied to give both body and brain some fuel for the day.
This is a great opportunity for students to gain focus, gather some last minute tips and calm themselves before the exam.
Year 10 Supervised Study:
On Wednesday 23rd and Thursday the 24th, at 3:20 - 4:20, we will be holding an open supervised study session for Year 10 students in the small hall. Students can come along and have a calm quiet atmosphere to study without distractions of face book, TV etc and actively revise on any subject.
Hot and Cold drinks will be provided to keep brains in top shape for revising.
Year 11
This week is the final full week in College for our Year 11 students as they prepare to leave us on Monday 21st May to commence study leave. The GCSE exams season is already in full swing, with several exams taking place this week, and the approach to these has been excellent. We have been working hard for some time now mentoring, supporting, advising and cajoling, as I’m sure many parents have at home as well, so we are really looking forward to seeing all the efforts come to fruition.
I should like to take this opportunity to formally wish all our Year 11 learners the very best of luck for the weeks ahead, although I am a firm believer that where exams are concerned, you make your own luck.
Those who take the committed, organised, determined route through the exam period will be rewarded in August, so please remember all we have said about making sacrifices in terms of your time now, so that you can enjoy your summer and the opportunities that success will bring.
A Message from the Community
I am delighted to share with you all a letter I received this week from a member of our community:
“At the invitation of Essex County Council Commissioning Group, I was one of five persons over 60 to attend a workshop on “The Generation Gap” at your College.
Although I am registered blind, my remaining sight and my wife’s comments prompted me to write and tell you of our reactions to your school, students and staff.
We have only words of praise. The students we formed teams with were well-mannered, attentive and intelligent. You have university talent amongst them.
It gave us great pleasure to be admitted to their company. Your staff that we met from reception onward were both pleasant and helpful. It makes a visit, to be greeted with smiles. Our buffet lunch was both healthy and a pleasure to eat. In my day (I started school in 1931), schools did not offer any meals, just boots for those who hadn’t any. Your catering department shows what we missed. I close by saying what a privilege and pleasure it was to be allowed to visit your college. Please thank your students and staff on our behalf.”
WELL DONE to everyone involved in planning and attending the workshop, and to our always outstanding reception and catering staff. You have clearly made a fantastic impression on the day, and it is heartening to read such glowing praise for your efforts.
